The course is delivered just in time to help you prepare for MACRA. Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act (MACRA) was passed in a sweeping effort to move away from fee-for-service reimbursement to value-based reimbursement. 

January 1, 2017 marks the beginning of the initial reporting period! Payment adjustments begin in 2019. Reimbursement will be based on performance against a national comparison group. There are two tracks in MACRA: Merit-Based Incentive Payment System MIPS and Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (APMs). This course will cover the different tracks; providers impacted and timeline. Most importantly, it will ready participants to take critical next steps to prepare for the first reporting period.

Course Objective

  • Consider the WHY: What Medicare is trying to achieve 
  • Relate the WHAT:
              o  the basic framework for Medicare payment under MACRA
              o  the differences between the MIPS and APM tracks for Payment
               how the PQRS, Physician Value-based Payment Modifiers and Meaningful Use are being consolidated under MACRA 

  • Understand WHO: which provider types are impacted by MACRA in what year 
  • Know WHEN: why calendar year 2017 is very important for future payments and the overall MACRA timeline 
  • Ruminate on WHAT ELSE: the political climate; lobbying for and against delay in implementation; and the speaker’s take on how the election outcome might impact MACRA 
  • Know WHAT CAN BE DONE to take pro-active steps prior to the first reporting period (January 1, 2017) 

Course Outline

The course will include a review of WHO, WHAT, WHEN, and WHY of MACRA. Participants will also leave with a solid grounding in how MACRA is structured; who it impacts and what the timeline looks like. Content covers insider views of what CMS is trying to achieve. We will look at lobbying in the context of the current political landscape.
